1969 Ford Mustang Description:

1969 Mustang BOSS 429 Tribute

Vintage S/S look Drag Pack Hot Rod

Mike 631-921-3433

This 1969 Mustang sports roof was restored as a "Day 2" Boss 429 Hot Rod; built to represent what Ford should have offered back in 1969; astripped downaggressiveFord Super Stock Mustang, similar to the factory sponsored drag cars of the day. It was assembled using specificallychosen vintage performance components (Holman Moody, Lakewood, Sun, Tubular Automotive, Thrush etc.) with common sense modern enhancements (Griffin, Flex a lite, Center-Forceetc.) for performance and reliability.A big cube "385" series Ford was chosen to give credibility and pay homage to the BOSS 429 Badge. A proper Boss 429 RUG AZ big input Top-loader4-Speed, Hurst Shifter andmodifiedFord Z-Bar was mandatory to retain the factory type feel with "day 2" muscle car driving experience.

* (In video, I mention cam spec incorrectly, it is a COMPS 275 DEH not 265...my apologies...Mike)

BODY & Paint:I did not perform the welding, body or paint work on this car however, I did speak to the gentlemen who did.Its a very nice driver to local show quality. The work isapproximately7 years old. The car is very nice yet driven so if you scour the body, perhaps there is a flaw here or there. There is one clear-coatblemish on the passenger side fender. Its hard to see unless you look closely. No rust to the body or uni-body evident. Quarter panels were replaced with full patches, outer wheel housings, nice solid original doors were retained, reproduction front fenders and chrome bumpers. Any rust found was cut out by the previous owner and replaced with reproduction panels. The floors and chassis were painted black with some undercoating on the rails and original metal.Solid floors and chassis.Originally Indian Fire, the car IS NOW Burgundywith all trim removed to complete the Boss look. 429 Type fiberglass hood scoop was bolted to the factory hood and made functional. The proper BOSS 429 Decals adorn the fenders.

ENGINE:All rebuilt with less than 700 miles.

When I acquired this engine, Itwas rebuilt, never fired and stored for years. I disassembled it to ensure machining and check clearances. Upon inspection, crank appears to have the characteristic embossment on the snout indicative to a 460 crank. I did not check the casting numbers so consider the CID of question; thus being .030 over 429 or .030 over 460. Do not bid if this is of concern.

The facts are its a D1VE Block bored .030, TRW forged .030 pistons, Crank turned .010 under, Clevite 77 main and rod bearings. I re polishedthe journals, cleaned and reassembled the short block ensuring .002 clearance on all journals. Mains TQ 102lbs, rods 43lbs. Melling HV oil pump & heavy duty Ford Motorsport drive was used for lubrication. Valve activation is provided by a Comps 275 DEH cam and master kit, double roller timing chain, and matching magnum lifters. The heads were disassembled, inspected and mildly ported on the exhaust side. I fitted them with the proper Comps valve springs, locks, keepers, seals and guide plates for the mild but aggressive cam. Comps Magnum roller rockers arms were employed to reduce friction. Edelbrock RPM intake with a modest Holley 600 CFM performance carburetor top the plant. Pertronix billet distributor with IgniterIII and vintage Accel Super Coil light the fire. Exhaust is handled by custom Tubular Automotive 1 5/8 Headers, 2 ½ dual exhaust tubing and Thrush stainless Mufflers.

Vintage Holman Moody Oil Filter relocation hub, housing and external oil cooler replicate the Drag Pack type Ford used on all big block BOSS engines. Griffin aluminum radiator, dual Summit 1200 cfm fans controlled by a Flex A Lite variable controller handle the cooling duties.

Transmission / Drive-lineAll rebuilt with less than 700 miles.

Transmission is a vintage BOSS type RUG-AZ big input Toploader that was fully rebuilt with all new or reconditioned internalsas required. Centerforce Dual Friction clutch & pressure plate, Hayes flywheel, Hurst Shifter and linkage, new custom sized driveshaft with HD universal joints.

Rear Axle:All rebuilt with less than 700 miles.

Ford 9 inch rear with 4 pinion Ford Traction Lock 3.50 gears.31 Spline Motive axles. All new bearings, seals etc.The rolling stock was chosento replicate the bare bones look of Fords Super Stock cars.

Rear Wheels and Tires:15x7 steel wheels with 275x60x15 Pro Trac tires.

Front Wheels & Tires: 15x6.5 steel wheels with 215x70x15 Pro Trac tires.

The rear traction challenge is mitigated by a pair of NOS Vintage 1970 Lakewood J-bar type traction bars that were stripped and painted Black (the yellow was chipped from poor boxed storage and honestly, didn't look good with the Burgundy). I havethe box and adjustment wedges should you desire pinion angle adjustments.

Steering / Brakes / Suspension

Manual steering gear with new tie rod ends and joints (for header and z-bar clearance).Rebuilt front suspension with big block springs and HD rear leaf springs. New brake rotors, bearings, lines hoses, master cylinder, ball joints, shocks, etc.

Interior

A nice blend of original materials with wear items replaced as needed. Very good condition. Seat upholstery is factory original with some wear and patina, mostly on drivers seat. Drivers seat has some stitching pull at the top left seam. New carpet dash cover, headliner and console. Fixed rear seat which saves some weight like original BOSS Mustangs. Vintage mechanical SUN Oil and Temp gauges adorn the forward console in a reproduction Shelby Housing. Reproduction of the original SUN 1969 Super Tach is mounted on the steering column. An aftermarket radio and speakers were in the vehicle when I purchased it and work well, but honestly, I prefer the sounds of the healthy Big Block.

Known Deficiencies / NEEDS:

1) The car needs the gear for the speedometer replaced (only gauge that does not function).

2) Emergency brake mechanism needs repair or replacement. Its still connected and does apply the but releasehandle broke off so I don't use it.

3) You may chose to repair the clear coat blemish on the fender as well but for a driver (In my opinion), its a minor blemish.

4) I never did touch up the paint around the hole cut below the hood for the scoop. You may do so or apply pinch molding foraestheticappeal.

If you plan to race or really abuse the car, I strongly recommend sub frame connectors to prevent the powerful Big Block from twisting up this fine car.If you drive responsibly, its not needed…just saying.

In General:Overall, this is a nice solid Mustang that was built with purpose and plan. It is sold with a valid NYS Transferable Registration that is in my name.

Have fun bidding but please don't ask the reserve. My reserve is reasonable given the resources necessary to replicate it. Photos provided were mostly from the Lake George AdirondackNationals car show in Sept and that's the last time I really drove it beyond a warm up cruise around the neighborhood.

I have many more photos and documentation of the vintage and new components installed with many receipt and invoices. All will accompany the vehicle upon purchase.

Questions are welcome and encouraged.
