Does it make a lot of noise, Yes…
Does it ride rough, Yes…
Do the tires rub, Yes…
Does it bottom out, Yes…
Does it look cool as hell, Yes!!!
Does it run as good as it looks, Hell Yes!!!
Does it get attention wherever it goes, Hell Yes!!!
Does it win car shows, Abso-freakin-lutely!!!
Best of all, it's a show off car and I just look damn good driving it...
My name is Rick Flores and I bought this car in a little town right outside ofSan Antonio TX. in 1985 and stored it till mid-2004, when I began its transformation for the 2005 SEMA show. This car was the display for the Baer Brake Systems show booth. This is an original Q-code, four speed, Acapulco Blue Mach 1.When I purchased it the car had 27,000 miles on it and the inspection sticker on the windshield was dated 1975.The car has never been wrecked and had absolutely no rust(NONE). Original Texas car! Originally came with a regular Mach 1 hood scoop, but I just had to have a shaker scoop on it for the right look. The Shaker is notaftermarke, it isa completeoriginal Ford metal base 428 unit that I took off one of my other 69 Cobra Jet Mustangs.
This car was completely disassembled and rebuilt using NOS Ford parts. The body was media blasted and coated from the bare metal up to its final clear coat with only the best materials available from Glasurit. The entire interior of the car was completely refinished as well and as nicely as the outer shell, thus including inner body panels, inner doors, complete trunk area, complete bottom side, and the entire engine compartment. All parts were completely disassembled and painted for best finish, and then reassembled. All hardware, nut and bolts were stripped and cadium plated to retain a stock appearance and to look brand new again. All stainless trim pieces were chromedfor a much nicer look. Nota single piece of aftermarket trim was used, so it all fits well and looks great, especially the trim around the nose of the car which has gotten so hard to find and has become obscenely expensive to buy now. I painted the car in a color very similar to the factoryshade but with a little more pop to stand out when sitting next to other cars. For those who have followed my previous car builds over the last 30 years, it’sobvious that most of my cars were always built for extreme performance. With this build, I wanted a car that I didn’t have to buy race fuel for and would run strong on pump gas. This car was built to both cruise in comfort and pack plenty of power to hold its own on both the street and track.Car was originally built with an Air Ride system as seen in several of the pictures, but has been switched out for adjustable coil overs which I much prefer. This car has not been cut on.The inner fender lips have been folded back to accommodate much larger tires both front and rear.I custom formed and installed a custom 6 point roll cage which hugs the roof and side panels so as not to be obtrusive. The sides of the hoop integrate into the inner quarter panels using Shelby side panel covers for a clean stock-ish look.Knowing the value of a 1969 428 Cobra Jet Mustang, I built the roll bar in a way that it would be easily removable without any structural damage to the car. The car was the cover car and feature layout for Popular Hot Rodding'sAugust 2012 issue.
