1933 German Ford Model B Cabriolet

Life began for this cabriolet when the chassis and running gear was built and shipped by Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Michigan to the newly builtFord Assembly Plant in Cologne, Germany 1933. The chassis was fitted with a custom convertible cabriolet body built by Karl Deutsch of Koln-Braunsfeld Karosseriework. A very labor intensive Cabrioletcoachwork body was completed which included subtle German styling unlike American Cabriolets. By 1934, Karl was delivering 8-10 bodies to Ford per day. The car was consigned to the Schlossplatz-Kurfurstendamm dealership in Berlin, Germany where it was purchased by a prominent German family. The car remained in Berlin up until the last few months of World War II before being taken to Essen, Germany. The '33 Cabriolet was garaged in Essen from 1952 until 1967 when it was purchased with intentions of restoring it. The car was sold once again in 1970 and taken to Osnabruk, Germany where it remained for 2 years until being sold to it's current owner. The current owner had the car shipped from Germany to the United States in 1972. The arrival of the German-Built 1933 Ford Model B Cabriolet to Houston, Texas marked the beginning of it's long road to restoration. The first efforts were gathering information on howthe cabriolet bodywas originally finished by Koln-Braunsfeld Karosseriework. A letter was written to Werner Deutsch (Karl's son) who had taken overthe business in which a hand written response was received by mail in 1973 with information about their early cabriolet production. Quite a few years passed between the time the car arrived to Houston and the beginning of the restoration. The professional frame-off restoration began in early 1987 and went on through the summer of 1988. Unfortunately, the current owner passed away shortly before the car was completely finished. Today the car is being stored in an air conditioned showroom of fine classic cars in Houston, Texaswhere it isavailable for sale. This is an extremely rare automobile and you will not see another like it. Don't miss the opportunity to make it yours!
