1957 Ford Thunderbird Description:

1957 T-Bird. This car was a hardtop and soft top car. I do not have the hardtop. This is a running and drivable restoration in progress. But: To be perfectly clear it needs work as you can see.
That said, the car is very straight. All the body panels line up straight and true. The doors open and close perfectly and without sagging. The frame is in excellent shape. The floor pans and trunk floor have no rust and do not need replacement. The fenders, hood, trunk lid and fenders have no rust at all. The hinge pillars are in excellent shape. The striker posts are in great condition. The passenger side rocker had some minor rust that was cut out and a replacement rocker has been purchased and is included. This car was being worked on in stages and is the reason why you see one side in primer and not the other.
It has a 1956 V8 engine that does not seem to be the car's original. The carb was rebuilt and the car starts up nice, does not burn oil, runs smooth and even but would benefit from a tune - up.
The transmission is an automatic. It shifts into drive and gets all three gears and shifts into reverse without issues. Even still, the car has sat for a long time and you will need to have the seals looked at.
The brakes seem to be okay. They are not stuck and the brakes will stop the car but I have not driven it outside of my block or at any speed more than 10 mph so I cannot guarantee they will work until someone who knows how to set these brakes up goes through them; I mean it only makes sense. That said the car will drive up and down off a transport under it's own power so you can request a quote for a running vehicle if you are needing a transport.
As stated at the beginning of the ad the car is a project car. It runs and drives but cannot be driven on the road unless and until a mechanic makes it roadworthy. As it is a project it will need a few things for sure. Currently, the glass that is in the doors is cracked. I will supply the winning bidder with door glass and wing vent glass. It will need a dash pad, kick panels and carpet kit but I will supply new door panels and a fully restored seat if the reserve is met.
The car also has a block that came with it when I bought it, but I do not know if this was the original block or not. It is included in the sale along with other miscellaneous engine accessories and parts that were with that other motor. It will need a new top but the convertible top frame is not rusted and is in good shape. It has new tail lamps out back. It will need the gas tank hot tanked to clean and then re-install.
It will come with regular steel wheels and 4 tires that hold air. The rims and tires on the car in these pictures are from my other T-bird. If the winning bidder is interested we can discuss at auction's end but they are reproduction wheels for Ford used on early Mustangs.
****. **** In no way shape or form am I trying to convey this is a show car. It is not. It is a project car and it is need of a full restoration and the bumpers need to be re-chromed. As such, the asking price is reflective of this. I have seen a lot of junk for sale here at many times over what I am trying to get for my car and this is a car that is almost already ready to drive.
I have not had the car painted because I do not believe in hiding anything from anyone. How you see it, is how you will get it. This would make a great winter project and is far enough along to have it ready for spring, let alone summer and can be had for under 10K.
I currently do not have the title for the car. It came to me without one. I know this can be worked out. I can make a consideration for this if the buying price is acceptable or I can take care of it and pass the cost to the winning bidder if that is how the winning bidder wants it worked out.
Because it is a project car it is being sold "as is" and "where is". It comes with no warranty neither written, expressed or implied. I reserve the right to end the auction early as I have the car being sold locally. If it helps make the decision I can assist in loading the car onto the transporter of your choice or if you are local, or close by (like the lower parts of Georgia or Alabama or the Florida Panhandle) I can have the car delivered to you on a one car trailer for 1.25 per loaded mile.
