1970 Ford Torino Cobra Description:

Up for sale is this beautifully restored concours 1970 Torino Cobra J code, restored to the Dragpack option with the 429 SCJ engine, 4 speed toploader and 3:91 gears. The restoration took 5 years to complete and was finished in 2011. It has always been trailered since and has less than 40 miles on it. Every piece of hardware, nuts, bolts, screws, grommets, clips etc. has been replaced with new correct type and color hardware. Every part of the car has been either replaced with NOS parts, quality reproduced parts or restored original parts. The car is exactly as it would look on the showroom floor, with tags, stickers etc. It is absolutely flawless inside, outside, engine compartment, trunk and underside. All the correct parts are on it, nothing missing. It has all Autolite parts battery, belts, hoses, cables etc. Magnum 500 15” wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires down to the Dill valve stem caps. It wins best of show in most shows I put it in and won the medallion award, best concours and best of show at the last FCA national meet that was held in York, PA. It has most of the options that were available when the 1970 Torinos were built. AM/FM radio, kick panel speakers, rear speakers under the rear package tray, trunk light, Ribbon tach, Rear window defogger with original switch, Louvers, buckets seat, console, all NOS tinted glass and more.

Since I’m a honest person and don’t want to hustle anyone, here's the scoop on this car, although there is no way anybody would know even if they went over the car with a fine tooth comb. This car started as an original 1970 J code Torino Cobra. I restored the car to how I would have ordered it if I could have in 1970. It originally was Ivy green which I stripped the entire car down to bare metal and painted it Calypso Coral, no evidence it was ever the Ivy green. It had an automatic on the floor and I installed a correct 4 speed toploader and correct Hurst shifter using the correct 4 speed hump and torched the hole exactly like Ford did. I installed the staggered shocks with an original brace in the trunk and even the brackets under the car between the trunk floor and frame and also torched the hole for the shock mount and drain holes as Ford did. No evidence that it was ever an automatic. I installed a correct N case rear with 3:91 gears from another Torino and gear reducer on the transmission. The original engine was replaced with what I believe was an over the counter 429 block before I originally purchased the car. I rebuilt the engine to 429 SCJ specs with the rev limiter and an original smog system and original oil cooler system, original 780 Holley and SCJ air cleaner and snorkel. After I did everything to make this perfect to a dragpack, I ordered and installed an exact duplicate door tag that has the cars original VIN showing it to have the 4 speed, 3:91 rear in calypso coral paint. Even purists who have looked over the car have no idea that it’s not a Ford produced Dragpack. Everything has been done exactly as Ford did and is perfect in every way.

I put so much into this car and don’t want to sell it but I just don’t have the time to get it the attention it deserves. I had it out only 3 times last year and only 3 times this year. I feel like I’m letting it waste away even though I keep in in a climate controlled garage. I have so much on my plate that I don’t know if I’ll have time to even take it out next year. It needs to be shown more and get the recognition and appreciation it deserves. I would take it to Barrett-Jackson to try to sell it but just don’t have the time.

So I figure I’ll just put it out there to see if someone has the interest and time for it and willing to pay what I feel it’s worth. It’s a brand new, 47 year old car with less than 40 miles on it. There’s so much more details of perfection about this car that I haven’t even mentioned. Please let me know if you like more info on it or want any specific photos of anything.
