1977 Ford F-250 Description:

For sale: 1977 Ford F250 4x4 western high desert truck, sold new and lived life in the cactus and sagebrush of arid central Montana, never seen salt. Originally a candyapple red truck(see Marti report), it's sun baked to a nice patina, no rust other than a few minor blemishes - I'd say 98 percent rust free. Engine has been upgraded to a very healthy 460. I purchased the truck from a local couple who were the 2nd owners, the husband had a stroke and was unable to drive - prior to that, this was his baby and it was well cared for. It sat for several years during his medical issues till they called me to come get it. I'm a retired engineer, and messing around with old trucks and 4x4s is my hobby. I drained the fuel tanks, installed a new fuel pump and a new battery and the truck roared to life. It's a very solid truck that drives well and has great power. I'll do my best to describe it below, please read the entire ad and see the linked YouTube walk around video and Photobucket album for more detail pics including underside.
Exterior: Paint is baked to a nice patina, but it's a straight old truck that's not rusty. A few dents and dings, a couple in roof on driver side, passenger front fender and one behind bug guard on hood. Only a very few small exterior rust spots on box and doors as shown in Photobucket photos. Very solid truck. Underside is good as well, cab mounts and floors very good and only a couple of small rust spots low on very back of box and one spot on fuel tank skid plate( both those areas hold mud and that attracts moisture), pics included of those areas. These trucks were rust prone and it's very difficult to find a dry one like this now. Inside of box is in rough shape, the folks I purchased it from installed a 5th wheel hitch at one time and clearanced the inner wheelwells. There are a couple of other holes as well. If your goal is a concours restoration, the wheelwells would have to be repaired or another box sourced. For a driver it's fine, might want to install a new bedliner as the one in it is from a late model Dodge. Glass is good, windshield is not cracked but has a few rock chips that were filled. No pitting on any of the chrome on the truck. Late model Powerstroke wheels are off another truck and do have some pitting. I ordered a new set of the correct hub caps and they will be installed when the truck ships. Truck is ready to work with receiver hitch and stainless tool box (Kobalt unit, don't have key but replacement available online for $9). Overall its a clean looking truck that draws looks and compliments at the gas pump.

Interior: Decent driver condition. A few small cracks in dash pad and door panels, seat is not torn under the blanket cover but it's sun faded. Carpet has been replaced and is in good shape, so is headliner. Probably want to replace the wear items to make it really nice, thankfully everything is available and inexpensive from the various truck vendors. Gauges work, radio works, wipers and heater work. Speedo sometimes jumps around, it's been getting better as I drive it. Cable or head probably needs lubed. A running truck that you can use and improve as you go.

Mechanical: Very solid truck that starts, runs, and drives out well. Previous owner upgraded the tired 400 to a very beefy 460. It's a 365 hp early motor that's been upgraded to Cobra Jet valvetrain including screw in studs, guide plates, hardened pushrods and roller rockers. No expense was spared on the install, from the high dollar L & L mounts and brackets and correct rear sump 4x4 pan, heavy duty clutch and flywheel, super cool big radiator and expensive Hooker headers. Cam has a healthy lope, and carb is an Edelbrock performer with electric choke. Because of the previous owner's stroke, we were not able to locate the paperwork, but well over $6k spent on the engine build and install. Truck sounds great with dual Flowmaster exhaust, no smoke, leaks, or noises. It's a high compression engine so plan on running premium fuel. I drained both fuel tanks, but just hooked up the rear tank. Choke might need adjustment, as it stumbles a bit upon acceleration till it's warmed up. Trans shifts fine and 4x4 works great. Toyo tires are getting thin and have maybe a summer of life left. Overall solid truck, but old rigs need work, so if you haven't messed around with classic cars or trucks before, adjust your expectations accordingly. These trucks are easy to work on, and parts are readily available.

Pricing/Misc: Seeing a lot of very expensive 73-77 F250 4x4's lately, these have become incredibly popular. This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. It runs and drives fine, but flying in and driving it home isn't really viable as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas that don't have cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive truck to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. Truck can stay here for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due.
