1959 Dodge Other Pickups Deluxe Description:

All original 1959 Dodge Sweptline pickup. This rare, classic Mopar has the very desirable big back window option and a very appealing ivory over red two-tone paint job. Mechanically it is nearly 100% original, with a conversion from generator to alternator and from mechanical to electric fuel pump. The expensive Torque Thrust mags are a nice bonus, and if you go back to stock wheels and tires, will look great on just about anything else. The engine runs like a sewing machine, smooth and quiet. She gets smiles and thumbs up everywhere she goes, and I often have people follow me so they can ask what it is, as these trucks are rarely seen anymore. This vehicle gets driven occasionally as-is, but what it really wants is to be restored. It's interesting to note 1959 was the last year for the venerable flathead engine, and the all-new full-width bed was introduced in mid 1959. Before that the only choice was a stepside bed, with or without the radical Sweptside treatment. Note: Sweptside is the finned treatment designed to compete with the Chevy Cameo and Sweptline started mid-1959 with the new full width bed and carried on for many years. Confusing! The truck does have some needs. The rubber floor mat in the cab trapped moisture and rusted out the floor in spots. It needs new pans welded in, which are readily available. Each front fender has a vertical strip with some corrosion due to water absorption by the rubber pad between the cowl and the fender. There is a small rust spot at the back corner, passenger side, where a big steel bumper (since removed) trapped dirt. Other than that, I can't see any bad spots. The truck once had a working life, and the bed deck shows some abuse at the back. Wood bed decking would mask that nicely. Mechanically it feels a bit tired, with vague steering at anything over 45 mph, and the carb can be balky at times while working perfectly at other times. It might need a rebuild. The gas gauge does not work, but it does have a new, locking gas cap and the fuel system is fine. It only drinks non-ethanol premium fuel. Everything else works, such as wipers (needs adjustment), lights, signals, heater, air grabber vent and the brakes are fine and the truck stops straight. The parking brake seems to have no effect. The windshield is cracked, but replacements are available. The door glass has some chips at the top, but the flat glass is an easy fix. That big back window looks to be in great shape.Other notes: Mileage may be 61,026 or 161,026. No way to know, but judging by the wear on the pedal pads, I don't think it's 261,026. Also, I have a matching mirror for the passenger side. Less than 5 miles on oil and filter change as of this writing, freeze protection on coolant good to minus 40F.If you need more info, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
