1964 Dodge Polara Description:

1964 Dodge Polara

I bought this car no-engine from Collector Motors in Houston, TX many years ago. Then bought the mid 70’s 440 engine from them, and had them install before shipping. The car was freshly painted and partially disassembled, and it looked great. Then I started having work done to complete the car, and it sat out in the sun at times, and eventually the clear coat got beat by the mile high Denver sun. Sides still look nice, but top surfaces show patina. Sun fade. There is some rust bubbles over the left rear wheel, was there when I got the car and hasn’t gotten worse, or popped through. Also some rust patching under the hood on drivers side cowl.Front floors have pans puttied in on top sides, but you can see they look solid and original from under. Someone elses repair.

Put on a new fuel tank and new dual exhaust.Lots of new parts!

I had door panels and back seat reupholstered, covering just the bad areas, and preserving the tri-stars and swirly embossing from the factory materials.Door panels still need installed. Needs headliner and carpet. Chrome inside window trim is rusted, needs sand blast and rechrome or paint.

I think the car may have had race history, as the nose was set high and it had traction bars when I got it.I think between race history and coming from the Southeast (before texas) that it didn’t have much rust, so repairs were minimal.

Mostly complete. Missing hood lip trim and one roof side panel tristar. The rest of the trim is all there, and its all been straightened and polished and reinstalled.

Tires are old 14’s on rally rims. They have tread, but bad sidewalls. Just for rolling around. You will need new tires for street use!

I got distracted on other projects, and the car sat for about 4 years.I thought the tranny had gone bad from sitting. In 2018, I got it in the shop at Mopar Masters in Denver. They work exclusively on Mopar, and they know their stuff.First good news, the tranny wasn’t blown. It had developed a leak where the speedo cable enters, and had leaked out a lot of fluid.Still leaks when sits too long, but fill it up and it shifts good!Next they put on a new choke and a bunch of linkage to get it all working. There were some loose wires in the ignition, which have been fixed. There was a lot of bad wiring behind the dash. The wiring has been repaired, gages fixed or replaced, and new sending units.$1700 later, its an awesome running 440!

It starts easy, runs strong, shifts good brakes work good (including parking brake). To make it driveable, strut rod bushings and control arm bushings need to be replaced.

I have a ton of pics on my website roysvintagecars.I took a video with the car running, but neither weebly nor ebay like the format.I uploaded it to the 62-65 B Body face bk page on Mar 21, 2019.
