1963 Dodge Power Wagon std Description:

This auction is for a 1963 W100 Power Wagon short bed pickup. This truck shares the same full floating Dana 60 rear axle as the 3/4 ton W200 Power Wagon. Health issues forced me to give up the lease on my shop as I was approaching the end of the truck's "restification" five years ago. I bought the truck on Ebay from a Wyoming seller many years ago for nothing other than the Braden winch and power take off. I removed the winch for another Power Wagon project and never dropped the transfer case to remove the PTO, figuring I would have plenty of time to do it after I finished painting the vehicle. The irony of it is, I no longer have a lift or transmission jack to remove the PTO. So it goes with the truck. After looking the truck over, it was obvious that it was too good of a project truck to abandon--it had virtually no rust, having lived its life in salt-free Wyoming. It had its share of bumps and bruises, including a crushed tail gate and mangled rear bumper. I fabricated a new tail gate, as well as rear and front bumpers. I also replaced the slant six and three speed transmission with a poly 318 V-8 and NP435 four speed from a donor '63 D100. The 318 got new timing gears and a timing chain before it was dropped in. New electric winches were installed on the front and back of the truck, 12,000 and 8,000 lb. respectively. The heater was rebuilt with a new core and water valve and as the photos indicate, I was planning a color change to red when the project came to a screeching halt. Other repairs and modifications included welding in new floor pans (the only significant rust on the vehicle), installing new jute and a fitted vinyl floor mat, replacing the weird manual windshield washer system with an electric unit, installing dual Optima batteries (now dead as doornails), new rear shocks and a complete 2 1/2" single pipe exhaust system. The aluminum 16" wheels and tires had very little wear on them when I put them on this truck and have had zero miles since.
What's left to do? The doors need to be rebuilt. I have already pressed in new hinge pins and re-hung the doors. A right NOS door latch goes with the sale but I never found a left latch. It needs one. And the window crank mechanisms need to be cleaned up and rebuilt. All original door parts are included. New upholstery was professionally installed. Glass is all intact; the windshield is new. I removed the rear glass to accommodate the color change but have not re-installed it. It is included with a new seal. The right window is included but not installed. Wiring needs to be connected to the back up lights, tail/brake lights, rear plate lights, and the seven pin trailer connector. Both winches need to be wired. Wiring under the hood and dash is complete, but for the previously mentioned unfinished wiring. The truck has a bunch of small dents and creases that have to be pounded out and the red paint job needs to be completed. The clutch and brake systems need to be filled with fluid and bled and if I were keeping the truck, I'd probably boil out the gas tank and flush the fuel line. That said, the truck did start right up before I lost my shop lease. It has not been started in five years and has not been driven since I began work on the project. A few miscellaneous restoration parts will be included with the sale.
When I gave up my shop, I parked the truck in the woods and covered it with a vinyl tarp where it sat for the last five years. Big mistake! The tarp created a miniature rain forest beneath it and much of the work I did cosmetically under the hood and in the interior will have to be re-done, as indicated in the photos. All of the cables for the heater, throttle, choke and vents are undoubtedly frozen from the humidity exposure and will need to be lubricated or replaced. It's clear that I will not finish this project and I'm hoping someone out there will. Montana title applied for on 10/2/2018 and will be provided upon receipt from the Montana Dept. of Motor Vehicles, along with a bill of sale.
