1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Description:

I am selling my 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible with 73,500 original miles. In 1966 Dodge made about 250,000 Coronets, but only about3,000 were convertibles. Of the convertibles only about 900 had a big block engine, so this is a truly rare car. The car was manufactured at Chrysler's Lynch Road Plant and was originally sold in Tennessee where it spent most of its time.It had been parked in a garage for almost 30 years and is in exceptional condition. It’s not a survivor just because it received a coat of paint at some point, but there is no perforation. The quality of the repaintingis just so-so, but it shines up nicely andgenerally looks great. The body is in great shape.Underneath I can see the typical surface rust one would expect with a 51 year old car, but it is still solid with no perforation or loss of function.

The engine is a 361, but the car is badged as a 383 tribute.A four-barrel intake and Carter carburetor give it the 383 appearance, but I still have the original intake manifold and carburetor for the purists. It has been fitted with aftermarket dual exhaust that sounds great. The aluminum radiator and electric fans are a major improvement over the original radiator, but I have the original radiator as well. The front end is upgraded with aftermarket disc brakes and a power disc brake booster, but again, I have the original single reservoir master cylinder. The wheels and tires have been upgraded to give the vehicle a resto-mod look, but, you guessed it, I have the original wheels, tires and wheel covers.I also have a second set of wheel covers that are included.

The interior is very nice. The seats have been recovered, but otherwise the interior is in original condition. The temp gauge is not functional, but the gauge itself checks OK.The same for the fuel gauge – the gauge is not working, but when checked at the gauge it does operate. The radio, no surprise, does not work either. The amp gauge, oil gauge, turn signals and turn signal cancelling are functional. Most important, the convertible top goes up and down with no issues.

The car starts reliably and runs well even after long distances. The 727 transmission is rock-solid.The car has been driven to many car events, but even though it is now in Michigan it has never been driven in winter weather, snow or even rain.

Included is a light-weight fiberglass hood with scoop. It has never been installed because it would need finishing, painting and reinforcement to put it on the original hinges, but it would be a nice addition for those who want to see the car take on a more performance-oriented appearance.

I paid more than I should a few years back when I bought this car, but it presents very well and it has been a lot of fun. With all of the upgrades it could still be taken back to original condition in one day because no holes were drilled or other modifications made.I don’t have the sticker or original bill of sale, but I do have the original broadcast sheet. This car is offered for sale to someone who wants to own the car.No dealers or resellers, please.I am offering the car for sale at $24,900 and would be negotiable with the right buyer.
