1970 Datsun Other Description:

1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster restomod. This is a cool little car with a custom built motor, new paint, new wheels and tires, and a new convertible top and interior. I purchased the car two years ago and upgraded several mechanical and wiring issues to make it more reliable.
Upgrades included Throttle linkage, electrical, convertible top, interior, engine tune-up, and brand new tires.
Overall it is a cute little car that is fun to drive. You can use it as is, or it would be a great car to start with for a full restoration.
Body:
New paint with a custom mixed shade of British Racing Green. It looks black in shade, green in light. Body is mostly de-badged with the exception of the side fender emblems, and has molding and bumper delete. The hood has a double row of louvers. Flat black fender stripes look cool, but could also be removed. The car comes with a new convertible top, and also a hard top.
Wheels and Suspension:
The wheels are a relatively new XXR mini-lite style that are 15 x 7 with 0 offset. Tires are brand new 195/60. Shocks are KYB gas adjust. The front sway bar has eurethane bushings. Brakes are in good condition.
Drivetrain:
Engine is the original R16 that was bored, stroked, and fully rebuilt into a 2.0 liter about 6 years ago and probably has about 5,000 miles on it. The block was zero decked and bored, with dished pistons and new rings. The crank was replaced with a U20 two liter crank, ground and polished with new bearings. U20 rods were smoothed and balanced. A performance cam shaft was installed. The head is ported and polished, with balanced and polished combustion chambers, new valves and springs, and a rebuilt rocker assembly from datsunparts.com. Carbs were converted to dual MCHH 45 weber sidedraft connected to a ported intake. I built a custom throttle linkage that improved throttle feel and keeps the carbs running the same. The ignition uses a Pertonix electronic unit. The car has the 1600 4-speed transmission that shifts well in all gears.
Interior:
I replaced most of the interior after buying the car. It has a new dash pad, door cards and center console cover. Gauges were converted back to the original Datsun set-up. It has a 240z style steering wheel, and an after-market aluminum shifter knob.
Issues:
This car had several areas of rust that were repaired by the previous owner. They were repaired by cutting out rusted sections and welding in new metal patch panels. They were then treated with POR 15, seam sealer, and undercoating. These areas included portions of the driver and passenger floor pans, passenger side rocker, and passenger side lower fender. While the fender was off, the inner are was also stripped, repaired, and coated with POR 15.
While I have owned the car, no rust has re-appeared, but I cannot claim that the car is rust-free.
The rear fender arches were fiberglassed due to rust, but in a dozen or so years since this work was performed by the previous owner, they have remained stable and strong. The arch profile is now larger than stock, but it suits the aggressive look of the car.
Though there was a new main seal installed at the time of the engine rebuild, it does leak a little oil when it sits. Also the rear differential leaks some.
