1967 Datsun 1600 SPL Description:

Many changes were made for 1967 Though the 1.5L SPL311The restyling was executed in part byCount Albrecht Goertz, who would later be involved with designing the firstFairlady Z.[7]Marketed as theFairlady 1600, or the Datsun Sports 1600 in many export markets including North America, it featured 14inch wheels and minor exterior changes.[7]The SPL311 was also known in the United States, on the West Coast, as the "Roadster". The front suspension was independent, utilizing coil springs over hydraulic shocks. Rear suspension was a common leaf springs design, dampened with hydraulic shocks. The 1600 SPL311 came with a pair of SU carburetors. The engine produced 96PS (71kW; 95hp). The R16 is an in-line four cylinder OHV engine with a high compression engine that had three main bearings, hydraulic lifters, a cast iron block and cast iron head. Timing of the distributor could be easily adjusted to reduce pre-ignition knock and thereby tune for questionable quality gasoline. Top speed for the SPL311 with approximately 91 octane gasoline was approximately 105 mph. Steering utilized a worm gear design. The hood badge said "Datsun" in individual letters, the rear badge said "Datsun 1600", and the side badges said "Fairlady" (Japanese market) or "Datsun 1600" (export market). The SP311 continued in production through April 1970.

To the uniformed, the Datsun roadsters (the collective nick name for all models in the U.S. They’re known as the Fairlady in Japan) are just Japanese MGB copies, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In point of fact, the Datsun pre-dated the introduction of the MGB by several months, and any styling similarities are coincidental. Whereas the performance of the MGB began to slide downward post-1967, it was just the opposite for the Datsun.

Datsun roadsters are pleasant-looking with more of a bias toward “cute” than handsome, the small hood scoop and stacked tail lights are unique features. The majority of cars out there are the smaller displacement 1500 and 1600 models. The 1600 had around 90 hp, out of the box and more could be had with a factory tuning kit.

This is a car I'vehad for about a year. I'verestored many cars but seems age is catching up on me and I dont have the fire anymore. I did do some work,

Removed and cleaned fuel tank

Installed Aluminumhigh flow Radiator

Removed Brake calipers, 2 I cleaned and are still on my bench. Need asst

Removed and re-greased wheel hubs that were slow.

Installed elect ign. No cant get it to run. With points it would run fine on starting fluid. Carbs need rebuilding

Installed Fuel Pump

New battery, some wiring, hoses etc.

Interior is surprising, Seats and carpet are great, Dash kinda on, stereo bezel was carved up for a stereo at some point.

Good compression, Tranny feels right, although I never could try it.

I think it was left to die by previous owner. Paint surprisingly good considering. Very very little rist. No cancer.

Honestproject for those who still have the desire. Depending on level of restoration, you could get it running and I believe drive down the road, high end resto, you would touch every part.

I was thinking about parting it out. I know I could make a small fortune as there are no parts available. Couple here and the but I have a whole car.

Body straight.

Bout all I can think of.

Don'thave title, will come with Bill of sale. The guy I got it from had it 8-9 years and didn'thave a title for me.

As is obviously

Does Nothave factory wheels. Definitely have to be towed.

Have a lot of original and new parts.

Really solid project with tons of upside.

Please ask any questions and Ill answer the best I can..
