1978 Datsun Pickup Description:

  • I bought this three years ago, I've never taken it camping, but I've slept in it, both top bunk and table bunk...
  • watch the video on you tube, https://youtu.be/f_zRc86d5PY
  • or look it up, on you tube, Datsun Dolphin RV camper, I'm the guy in the suspenders
  • It only weights in at about 4100 lbs., very light weight, I took it over the scales, and it's posted on the door.
  • LB20R engine, four cylinder, 2000 CC, four speed manual transmission, with low miles, 87000
  • All new/replaced
  • New rear tires, 235/65/14, about nine or ten inches on wider rims, for stability and looks. It came with 245/65/14s on it, but I went a slight bit thinner, the DOT banned duallies on these with the stock rear end.
  • front tires replaced, stock Datsun wheel/rims and "dog dish" hubcaps
  • New front brakes
  • New rearbrake seals and rear brakes
  • New alternator, upgraded to a 50 amp (200 SX), from the original 35 amp
  • New Weber "Redline" carburetor, upgraded from the stock Hitachi carburetor that came with it.
  • replaced a heater hose,
  • ignition coil, was new/replaced when I bought it
  • found a stock Datsun rim in Idaho, shipped it in, and put a spare on it, still has an old spare underneath the rear
  • replaced the front tires, the originals were too old.
  • Fuel tank drained, acid rinsed, cleaned and alkali rinsed, refilledwith fresh gas, and addedsea breeze and ran.
  • It has a dual battery system, one for the truck, and one for the camper, 12 volt, right now, it only has a battery in it for the front.
  • All the mechanical and engine work has been done and it's good to drive and go at any time now.
  • I wanted the mechanical work done first, it's now running well, but needs some work in the camper to be done.

  • I replaced the propane tank for the camper heater and stove, to a modern propane tank.
  • I tested the fridge, it's a three way fridge, it works on 110, propane, or 12 volt. The wires to the 12 volt have been snipped, as I read up on this type of fridge, running off the battery will drain it rapidly..
  • I painted the stove with aluminum high heat paint
  • I got flooring for it, six inch glue down laminate, bought it on ebay, wood tone, with a gallon of glue, pending.
  • The interior of the camper has some water damage, needs new paneling in a couple of places
  • I replaced the original 'swamp cooler' over the camper with an electric fan vent. you can mount an AC unit up there if you'd like.
  • Both of the other vents caps need to be replaced still.
  • Bathroom toilet is intact and complete, comes with valve, connector and drain hose
  • I threw out the old mattress, and bought three new"dog beds" that will fit into the bed area over the cab, comfy.
  • I do have a couple of cushions that you can put on the seats for the table, but you can buy "dog cushions" on amazon or ebay and have new ones, just measure it and get the dimensions to fit for a reasonable price.
  • I will be posting more videos and pics in the next day or two.
  • Buyer is responsible for all shipping. I would trust it to drive it anywhere in the USA.
  • Delivery is available for an extra price. I can drive it there, and fly back, if needs be.
  • Or you can have it shipped via a commercial carrier.
  • I'm in it close to three K, not counting my labor, it's yours, buy it now, or make an offer on it.
  • interior paneling and painting can be done for an extra price, I'm still working on it, to get it totally restored.
  • more pics coming soon.
