1956 Chrysler 300 Series 300B Sport Coupe Description:

This 1956 Chrysler 300B 2-door Hardtop Sport Coupe has been the subject of a complete, professional, no expense spared, award winning body-off restoration.

This 1956 Chrysler ‘letter car’ is one of 1,102 produced exclusively in Detroit. Technically it was a sub-series of the New Yorker.
Often regarded as America’s first ‘muscle car’, it was the most powerful and fastest American built car available, and the first car to produce 1 horsepower for every cubic inch of engine.
The high compression 354 ci. Hemi engine put out 355 horsepower, and set the World Passenger Car Speed Record at Dayton Beach, averaging 139.9 mph., with a top speed of 143.8 mph.
Then touted by Hot Rod Magazine as “America’s Hottest Stock Car”, and today considered by many as the ancestor of ‘Mopar muscle’.

The owner acquired the car totally original in 2012, from original family estate in San Francisco where it had been garage kept since 1973, with 55,062 original miles and sporting original black paint.
Originally sold by Phil Frates Chrysler of San Francisco, it has a California title and a black plate, as well as being presently registered in Alberta.
This 300B has been correctly and meticulously restored to its original configuration with the only exception being a total color change from black to red per the owner’s preference, and the addition of an electric fuel pump.

The restoration was performed by Investment Vehicle Restorations of Granum, Alberta, a long standing and reputable shop with over 30 years’ experience restoring cars in southern Alberta, and specializing in Mopar products.
The body-off restoration was completed in 2012, with every piece and component either NOS, new, or restored to a high level by varied specialists.
Among several others, notable awards received include Best Restored at World of Wheels in 2014.

The odometer now reads 55,068 miles. Since completion, it has not been driven and its outings have been primarily for show purposes. It is fully functional and in roadworthy condition.

This original 354 ci. OHV FirePower Hemi V8 engine is the 340 hp. version, stamped 3NE561802.
It has been fully, professionally, and correctly rebuilt, and is fueled by dual 4 bbl. carburetors, also professionally rebuilt. The engine starts well, sounds good and runs smooth.
It had a comprehensive dynamometer test performed upon completion by Dyno Plus Services Inc. of Calgary, and the favorable multi-page analysis and report will be included.
Awarded ‘Outstanding Restored Engine’ at 2014 World of Wheels in Calgary.

All other mechanical components on and around the engine are correct, NOS, new or restored, and fully functional.
Fuel and cooling systems fully restored. An electric fuel pump has added to assist start-ups, and is hidden behind a shield located to the right of the radiator just ahead of the front cross-member.
Grade 8 fasteners used, and extensive detailing is evident throughout.

Pushbutton controlled Powerflite 2-speed automatic transmission professionally rebuilt by Mister Transmission, shifts as it should.
The 3.54:1 rear differential was completely restored and runs quiet.
There are no signs of any leaks beyond a couple of the usual sweat drops at the tranny.

This ‘letter car’ rides on a 126” wheelbase, is 222.7 inches long, and had a factory shipping weight of 4,360 lbs.
This very solid frame, which has boxed side rails, was sandblasted and painted gloss black.

All other chassis and suspension parts properly restored with NOS and new parts, super clean and tidy, appearing as they should finished in appropriate coatings and colors, and highly detailed. Most assembled with grade 8 fasteners as well.

Both power steering and power brake systems fully restored. All new lines and hoses throughout.
Complete new custom built aluminized dual exhaust system with rare NOS MoPar Sono G-X mufflers, stainless clamps, sporting chrome tips.
Fuel tank cleaned and sealed, sender repaired.

The tires are a matched set of BF Goodrich Silvertown 8.20-15 bias ply with wide white walls, and still showing nibs as new.
The running tires are mounted on beautiful new 56-spoke Chrysler 300 wire wheels sporting new correct spinners and checkered flag 300 emblems.

The body of this car was mounted on a rotisserie and totally stripped to bare metal, along with all other sheet metal such as hood, fenders, doors and trunk lid.
The very few and minor rust issues were all addressed with proper metal work.
The body mounts, rockers, floor and trunk pans are all very solid and clean, as are the front fenders and doors.
Sound deadener applied to interior.
The body and all panels are super straight, with good alignment, fit and gaps. Only one exception to this is the driver’s door which sits proud at its bottom rear corner, and both door mid-body moldings could use slight alignment.

Originally a black car, the owner’s preference was a color change to red, which was an available color choice when new. Refinished in 2-stage paint using high quality Spies Hecker base/clear, and has been professionally wet sanded and polished.
The finish is excellent, very smooth and shiny, and remains free of any blemishes, road rash, stone chips or scratches.
Awarded ‘Outstanding Paint’ at 2014 World of Wheels as well.

Underside is painted body color, with front inner fenders and rear wheel wells finished with a black gravel guard.

This was the year Chrysler switched from 6-volt to a 12-volt electrical system. Authentic battery in this car.
Equipped with a 150 mph. speedometer. New coil, regulator, horn & starter relays, headlamp & back-up switches.
All new wiring harnesses were installed, and all electrical items and power systems are in good working condition.
Radio properly restored with solid state vibrator, new 7” Mopar speaker, power antenna equipped.

This car was not ordered with power windows, power seat, or air conditioning.
Headlamps upgraded to halogen.
Park light lenses in very good condition, rear tail light and backup plastic lenses as new.

Leather interior was standard appointment on the 300B.
The interior on this car remains in overall excellent condition, having been fully redone in correct materials, patterns and colors.
Fully carpeted, matching mats with tan bindings, sill plates as new.
Also awarded a ‘Best Interior’ in 2014.

Nicely restored steering wheel, no cracks, very nice horn ring and center Power Steering button.
Covered upper dash in excellent condition, as are door and rear side panels.
Lower dash nicely painted, gas and brake pedals like new.

Nicely fitted head liner is excellent, along with visors, kick panels, and rear package shelf which holds a correct rear speaker grille.
All inside chrome and brightwork is in very nice condition.

Shaded windshield in very good condition, as is all other glass, and all bright trim is very nice, with functional flippers above doors.
All new rubber items, weather seals, glass channels and sweepers throughout.

The trunk is carpeted with correct grey side panels, matching spare tire mounted on stock steel rim, and original jack parts correctly stowed.

Bumpers and guards very straight with excellent chrome.
All pot metal, chrome, and stainless on the car, both exterior and interior, has been re-chromed or polished and is in show condition, essentially flawless.
Stainless trim professionally restored by West-Tek of Calgary.
Pot metal grilles are very nice, with only one small area at bottom of left front grille showing a few tiny pits.

Dual fender mounted rear view mirrors in excellent condition.
Nice correct 300 emblems between grilles and on trunk, chrome scripts on quarters.

The original Owner’s Manual is with the car, along with its California State Registration Cards from 1962-1973, the last year driven prior to storage.
The numerous awards plaques and custom show signage board will go with the car, as will the full dyno report.

The owner is a member of the Chrysler 300 Club International, a binder full of their ‘News-Flite’ bulletins and membership roster will be included as well.

A comprehensive file containing all receipts for the purchase and restoration of this car will accompany the car, and itemizes all the new and NOS parts that went into it. These receipts total over $228K Cdn. dollars, which based on today's exchange rate is over $170K USD.
The 5-figure reserve is far below that amount, as well as being below the value assigned to a condition 1 car averaged from the 6 major collector car value guides.
