1982 Chrysler LeBaron convertible
1982 Chrysler LeBaron Description:
For your consideration, 1982 Chrysler LeBaron convertible classic car. This vehicle was the model that saved Chrysler corporation from bankruptcy in the early 80's. This vehicle made on the K-platform was the first Chrysler with progressive front wheel drive and economical 4 cylinder engine. This convertible was very successful and literally saved the company. This particular LeBaron is the first generation from the first year they were made - 1982 ( not counting the 1981 prototypes). I purchased the car two years ago with the intention of restoring it to like new condition. I was using it on a regular basis, it was my sunday and fun driver. The car runs very reliably, transmission shifts smoothly through it's three gears. I purchased all the parts for it, but never got to do the restoration, and finally I realized that I do not have enough time to do it, so I'm looking for a new home for this true iconic classic.
Engine: Mitsubishi 2.4 L engine runs smooth, does not smoke, does not knock and has plenty power left in it. It has equal compression in all 4 cylinders. Fires right up - it is carburetor equipped with automatic choke that works. Engine has small oil leaks - as expected for 37 year old motor. Complete gasket-seal kit included.
Transmission: automati, three speed. Shifts smoothly, works as it suppose to. No leaks as far as I can see.
Body - exterior: original paint, that is faded on several spots, I was going to give it a brand new paint job. I believe that eventually it will need one. Some rust is present, there are really bad rusty spots on rear passenger's floors - this is typical spot for these cars - it will need to be repaired, but it does not interfere with driving of this car. Convertible top - electric operation works as it suppose to. The vinyl top was replaced by previous owner and he did not do very good job. Please see pictures - he used some kind of silicone to fill small gaps at front - again - i was going to replace the top as well for a new one - they go for about $250.
Body - Interior - all original interior with the Mark Cross leather, some cracks in driver seat - not through, but noticeable. Carpets are original, fairly clean. Some pitting on the radio face plate. Radio works except for the cassette player. Dashboard is cracked - typical for these cars. A/C - does not work.
Tires - new tires were installed one year ago, so they have about 2000 miles on them - see pictures.
Electrical equipment - all lights work as they suppose to. Top goes up and down, A/C does not work.
NOTE: I have a donor car - exactly the same car - same year, same color with plenty of good parts on it - with running motor and rebuilt transmission. I will include that car for additional $150, if the winner would be interested in it.
I really wish i could eep this car, but really need the space in my garage and I have lots of other projects that are priority. I hope that somebody will finish, what i never started and restore this car to it's glory! It definitely deserves it. If you are interested in these K-cars, check out this article:
