I know there are a lot of tire kickers out there that just love to look and read and ask questions and never bid or ever intend to bid. I wrote up the known history and noted condition on this car.
This car was ordered/purchased by me and my father in late 1975. We filled out the order at Salina Chevrolet in Syracuse, NY. Ordered in April delivered in May 1975. We've babied and stored it for 40 years in a heated dehumidified garage. Car was showed and driven occasionally. No winters, ever.
One day I took a good look at it and realized it needed to go or be freshened up. Since I am sick person that translates into "a perfectionist" a partial clean would not work. Time and storage had caught-up with the El'Camino. Never planning to sell it. I had the car completely disassembled. Frame off rottissorie restored. Frame was glass bead blasted as was the underfloors everything was solid no rust at all just some surface rust where GM didn't paint it so well. The car was sprayed underneath and inside the body panels with oil when new so exposed metal was minimal. The exterior panels were in perfect condition except for some chips along the bottom from road wear. But no rust on body at all. Car was repainted in and out and under in the original colors. Chrome is original and in A-Plus Condition. Interior is original except for new carpeting. Window glass all tinted and is original in excellent shape
Engine, well that's another story. It had the original 350 2-bbl hydro-matic.(Which I still have) Why did the car have a 350 2 bbl??? Because is was ordered during the 70's gas crunch. Car got great gas mileage but to say "Boring and Dull" and maybe "Gutless" is understatement. We installed a rebuilt 454 with 550HP and Tremic-Keisler 600-5 speed. I intentionally made it look original and subdued. Engine and transmission fits like a glove. Runs smooth and sounds strong and mello. The exhaust is dual stainless. All practical upgrades were made during restoration all service items replaced as needed but we did not alter overall appearance, even wheels are original new tires, stainless steel brake and fuel lines. .
Either you like El'Camino's or you don't. They are a fun addition to anyone's collection especially a nice brand new looking one. This model was not the raving beauty or shining star of the GM line-up but for those who want one and like this body style or want to rock a car show. This car is an eye catcher. This one is a 10.
This is probably the best example of a rust free, damage free car of this type around, maybe in the world. The price is not a typo, I don't care what others are going for they're all rusted out, patched up bondo-lead sleds built in someones drive-way as a home project. This is an original low miles car with up grades to make it a force to be reconded with. Don't write and tell there is a cheaper one out there. If thats what you want go buy it. This car is for the discriminating buyer who wants the best around. I feel so strongly about this car's quality, that either it sells or it goes back in the collection and visits local shows on Sunday's.
*Tilt custom steering wheel
*AM/FM Radio (original)
*two-tone paint-new original colors
**Car is spotless inside and out-no rust, damage or accidents EVER!****Looks better than new now outside paint is now show quality. Inside looks like it did in 1975. Underneath is fresh and new looking and will stay that way if cared for over time.
