1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Description:

The 1st generation Camaro is one of the most legendary American cars of the past 100 years, and when you look at this blue 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS droptop, it's pretty easy to figure out why. With a numbers matching 327 under the hood, timeless good looks, and a few choice options, this Camaro tells you all you need to know about why Chevy dominated the muscle car era. Orange Camaros get a lot of attention, but... if you want to look like an adult, this handsome Grotto Blue convertible is a smarter choice. Not overly bright, but not soft, either, it's the quintessential muscle car color that projects both style and aggression. Don't be fooled by the photos, since our photo studio has trouble capturing the car's actual color (light blues do that), but it's a great-looking car in the flesh. It was repainted around 10 years ago and still looks good, with good panel fit and straight sheetmetal throughout, although it has spent some time as a fair-weather driver, so it's no longer perfect and has signs of use. White bumble bee stripes are almost mandatory, just like the ducktail spoiler out back, all of which are welcome additions. This is not an SS and it's kind of refreshing to see that it hasn't been doctored up with fake badging, although with the aggressive stance folks are probably going to make that association anyway. Does it matter? This is an awesome-looking Camaro! Details like the blacked-out grille, RS hidden headlights, bright bumpers with accompanying guards fore and aft, and polished stainless wheel moldings were all options, and they elevate this Camaro above some of its stripped-down brothers. Light blue buckets work nicely with the paint, and the understated interior is still a great place to spend some time. The seats show some wear as they are claimed to be original like most of the interior, but the depth of the detailing on the seat covers means they've always been treated with care. The gauges are all original and have held up well, and the wood-rimmed steering wheel and matching wood applique on the center console and middle of the dash adds an upscale air to this Camaro that fits it well. Previous owners fought the temptation to swap in a modern radio, so remarkably the original AM/FM unit is still right where it's supposed to be (and it works!), and the coolest feature inside the cabin is easily the horseshoe shifter inside the middle console: there's no better selector for an automatic transmission. The contrasting dark blue carpets are a little aged and are purported to be original, as are the door panels and dash pad, but it's still a car you can jump in and enjoy right away. A white power convertible top adds to the grown-up look and is in nice condition while the spacious trunk is outfitted with a period-correct mat. Few powertrain combinations are more reliable and time-tested than a 327 cubic inch V8 (numbers matching) backed by a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission (believed original). The engine bay is nicely detailed with a stock presentation, featuring a black snorkeled air cleaner to complement the Chevy Orange paint on the block itself. It's reported to have been rebuilt around 10 years ago and shows signs of maintenance throughout including fresh plug wires and a newer brake booster and dual master cylinder that go along nicely with the factory Rochester carburetor, stock intake manifold, and that thick aluminum radiator that keeps the whole show nice and cool. It starts easily and runs great, and whether at idle or with the throttle wide open, it sounds fantastic. Having always been under the tutelage of conscientious owners, you know the chassis is solid and exactly what you want when you buy a car with the intention of driving it. A burbling dual exhaust system is just right, not too loud and with a bit of an attitude and with power steering and power front disc brakes, driving this droptop is an absolute delight. Rounding out this car's list of noteworthy attributes are flashy American Racing Torque Thrust chrome wheels wrapped in 235/45/17 performance radials. If you haven't experienced the greatest generation Camaro of all time, this is an ideal opportunity to do so. And with a top that goes down, you can really do it in style. Call today!
