We recently acquired this nice original 1976 Corvette from Illinois. The previous owner new alot about this car and most all owners as well. I do have his contact information if needed to discuss the history of this Corvette. The original selling dealership decal is still on the rear bumper and spent most of its life in the state of Illinois. This one is a real nice driver with an excellent all original interior in near perfect condition and nice presentable paint which, is also believed to be original. The overall car sits well and drives out nice. We did install a nice set of restored aluminum wheels with newer BF/Goodrich white lettered radial T/A tires which are all balanced out nicely. The tires all match and are sizes P225/70-R15. The body is nice and non-hit with no signs of repairs or damage. Both the front and rear bumpers are originals and the finish is still good with no stress cracks. All exterior lights work and even the original power beam headlight bulbs are still intact. Headlights operate up and down like they should. The overall paint looks to be the original and still has a nice shine. There is some chips and nicks which would be expected for a 42 year old car but nice and presentable to most anyone. The car does not need repainting. The trim around the glass is nice and all of the window glass appears to be original to the car. The t-tops fit well and the weatherstripping is nice and good as well. It does have a luggage rack which would have been dealer installed back then and still is in decent shape. The doors line up nice along with the hood and headlight assemblies. The doors also open and close with ease and better than 99% I have seen. This is one of those cars that when you start it up and the choke still works, get in it and go down the road, you just know and have a real good feeling that the miles are actual and that the car just has not been messed with. I would not be afraid to get in this Corvette and travel a distance at all. The steering is nice and tight and no rattles that are obvious.
The interior is simply stunning! It is original and well preserved. Nice original leather seats with no rips, tears or repairs. Original seat belts still intact, original dash pad with not one crack and in near perfect condition, original gauges are nice, clean and crisp with no dust behind the lenses and no fading on the instrument needles, original working am/fm radio, steering wheel still has that nice original grain textured finish with no wear, that alone will verify the miles, gas pedal and brake pedal show no wear, carpeting is the original special cut-pile that your new reproduction sets you buy do not even come close to match, nice original headliner t-top trim pieces that are like new, carpeting in the rear storage area is also nice with the original jack and lug wrench still intact, the original door panels are in excellent shape with no cracks where the usual places you see on these types of models have, just an amazing original well preserved interior that I would put up against any 76 model for sale.
The engine compartment is mostly original with some hoses and belts being replaced over the years. Much of the original paint is still on the engine as this was the last year to see that Chevrolet Orange on these engine blocks. All of the air conditioning is still hooked up and in working condition, but with the colder temperatures I don't know how real cold it does blow. The original air cleaner assembly, carburetor and valve covers are still on the car. The previous owner did mention that approx 5 years ago that the heater core and radiator had been replaced along with the brakes as well. I do know that I have personally driven this car and it does not run hot nor overheat at all. It will sit in traffic and idle smoothly. We did change the oil and filter using Lucas Hot Rod & Classic Car Oil W/High Zinc which is good for these older engines. I do not see any major leaks nor any fluid drippings all over the floor. The exhaust system has been replaced at some point but does still have the original exhaust manifolds. The original spare tire and wheel are there and looks as to never have been used and even the spare tire lock is there. The frame is nice and solid with no rust. It looks as though the frame and some parts of the underbody have been painted and lightly undercoated but nothing real heavy nor done to cover anything up. It was done to protect the frame. I did have this car put up on a lift and steam cleaned and pressure washed the chassis which cleaned and does look presentable. Overall I think most anyone would not be displeased with this car and would not be ashamed to show it off at any car event or cruise-nights.

The optional deluxe leather interior was a real nice feature and included leather seat trim, wood-grainedaccents and lower carpet trim on inner door panels, wood-grained accents on console, and special cutpile carpeting.Listed as separate options initially, power brakes (J50) and power steering (N41) were included in anincreased base price during 1976.The RPO Option C49, used glass heating elements instead of forced air and the terminology changed from"defroster" to "defogger".
There were 46,558 Corvettes produced in 1976.This one was number 38,562.Actual build date was Tuesday June 15th, 1976.4,590 were finished in Corvette Red in 1976.
INTERESTING 1976 FACTS:The carburetor air induction system was revised in 1976. Previously, air was drawn in at the rear of the hood, producing a slight howl audible from within the car. The air source point was moved forward, so that air waspulled over the radiator. The 1976 hood is unique to the year. The aluminum wheels announced for 1973 arrived as a bona fide option with the 1976 model. These were madeby Kelsey Hayes in Mexico. However when ordered, the spare wheel is the rally style steel one.Engineers put a partial steel underbelly in the forward section of Corvettes starting in 1976 for added rigidity, weightreduction, and to better isolate the cockpit from heat generated by catalytic converters. Also, higher enginetemperatures were intentional, one way to increase efficiency and partially offset emissions-related power losses.Astro Ventilation was eliminated starting with 1976 models. This meant, among other things, that vents on the reardeck (just aft of the back window) were deleted.A new "sport" steering wheel for 1976 Corvettes was shared by Chevrolet Vegas (and other Chevrolet models), adevelopment not viewed well by Corvette enthusiasts. Some late-production 1976 Corvettes were built with parts normally associated with 1977 models, especially interiorcomponents. Two styles of rear bumpers were used. The first had smaller, recessed "Corvette" letters. The second style had largerletters, not recessed. The 1976 was the last of the era to require a unique Delco radio due to the available console depth.
As far as I know most everything does still work on this Corvette except for the tachometer and windshield wipers.I just have not had the time to trouble shoot those two items. The tachometer was working when we bought the carand has since quit while I last drove this vehicle.
