1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Description:

I want to start of by saying that I am not a car expert, but more of an enthusiast. I have a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 Turbojet with the 4 speed transmission. I purchased this vehicle from a friend of a friend. This car had been sitting in a garage for over 18 years under some plastic. This is said to be an all original, matching numbers car. I have checked most of the car and it does seem to be as claimed. I am not a paint expert, but the paint seems be the original single stage paint. The engine is the EF code which is the 350-L34 with the heavy duty clutch. When I purchased it, all we did was replace the fuel, oil change and add a new battery. The car fired right up and runs good. I have driven it to a couple of car shows since I have had it and it does good on the road. Turns a lot of heads and gets a lot of thumbs up. Overall the vehicle is in great condition. The paint had some light overspray from the previous owner painting some construction equipment in the shop where the car was being stored. I did a light cut and buff to remove the overspray. There is some scratches and some chips in the paint. The headliner is sagging in one spot where the stitching is coming un done. The seats seem to be the original seats. I took the rear seat back off and the foam is pretty deteriorated, so this led me to believe it to be all original interior. There does not seem to be any rust of any kind on the car. There is a very minor oil leak. It drips on drop about once a week or so. Brakes good, starts and idles good, shifts good, all lights work, interior clock works, all gauges work. When I filled it up with gas and had it on a slope it leaked a little bit of gas out of the top of the tank. I don't know if this is common or if it just needs a seal replaced. It seems to be the original quadra jet carb. There are no seat belts, from the research I did, some came with seat belts and some did not. Again as far as I can tell this seems to be the real deal. I have not really done anything to the car since I purchased it other than the cut and buff and vacuum out the interior. Probably could use a good once over. But I have driven it about every other weekend or so to a couple of car shows and it runs good. If you have any other questions please feel free to give me a call: Tim 505-353-2558.
Shipping will be up to the winning bidder to set up. My zip code is 87042. Thanks for looking and good luck!!

So I have been getting a lot of questions. Here are some of the answers to some of those questions:

  • Yes I do have the original Protecto Plate
  • The Rear Axle code is the KF code which is the 3.55 Posi
  • The tranny is stamped with the P7A23 code
  • Either the trunk lid is a new one or theyreplaced the bolts on the hinges as they should have been painted if itwas the original(shout out to Mike Crown with mysterychevelle.com for pointing that out).
  • Theinterior dash lights and the glove box light are working.
  • Yes there are some chips in the paint on the hood and on the drivers side door in the front and some other minor chips on the rest of the car.
  • All windows do roll down and roll back up with no problems.
  • Windshield wipers do work and function
  • All turn signals and exterior lights are in working order.
Thank you for the questions and if you need or would like any more pictures just shoot me a text and I will get back with you.

So Mike Crown has given me some more info in regards to the car. His thoughts are that the block could possibly not be the original. He is saying that based on the stampings and code that it could possibly be from a 1968. He said that they did use this code in the late production run of the 1967 Chevelle SS, but he believes that more than likely it is from a '68. He said that he can't say that this information is fact, but based on his experience that is what he thinks. I really have no way of verifying if this is truly the original engine that came with the car in '67. Just wanted to pass that info along for those people interested or that have already bid.
Also, I do have the care listed locally and reserve the right to end the auction at any time if I sell it here locally.

Well I would like to thank everyone for all of the input and help on helping me figure out exactly what I have here. So with all the information and investigation it does look like the motor is in fact from a 1968. So this would not be the original motor that came with the vehicle. Again thank you to all the people that helped and provided information. Much appreciated.

Well the information keeps coming in. I received some information yesterday from another person about the car. This individual is stating that the motor is in fact the correct motor for this car. Here is what they said: Most 1967 Chevelles were completed and on the showroom floors of dealerships by October of 1966. My car was built in early 1967. Cars that were built after the first distribution to dealers(like mine) would have received the new motor with the casting of 68. Really at this point it is about a 50 50 spilt as to people saying it is original and people saying it is not. I really have no way of knowing for sure at this point. I did have someone come by and take a look at it that has extensive knowledge of these cars and they did a check of the vehicle top to bottom. There determination was that the car was all original. There are some bolt ons that have been added, serpentine belt and gas shocks. But these are just easy bolt on items that can be removed. Other than that everything, to their estimation was original. They did say that they think that the trunk lid had been re done on the surface(repainted) but it did seem to be the original trunk lid, or whoever replaced did a really great job at duplicating an original. I have definitely learned a lot about this car since I listed it. All I do know is that it is a really cool car, and it is hard to find them in this condition anymore. If you are interested in this car I would suggest that maybe it would be worth the plane ticket to come take a look at it. If it is in fact all original this is a diamond in the rough.
