1972 Chevrolet Blazer K5 CST Description:

1972 K5 CST Blazer / Original Survivor / Numbers Matching Drive train / 4X4

Bought this K5 nearly ten years ago to restore to factor specifications; took me three Blazer purchases to get this this one which was the nicest, unmolested (for the most part), solid, candidate for my factory restoration. Great to restore, resto-mod, or whatever but this is a great candidate for a restoration given most K5 are either trashed or heavily modified but if you win you can do with it as you please.

I’m told that I’m the third owner, Blazer was originally purchased new in Colorado by a construction contractor, bought later by one of his employees, told it was always garaged and only taken out in the spring and summers; no snow and it appears to be true; the truck is very solid, not perfect, but better than ones I’ve seen selling on EBay over the last several months for 20K plus. I’ll do my best to cover everything the previous owner had done; what I’ve discovered, and what I have done to restore and/or bring back to factor, and make safe to drive and have fun during restoration. Far from being completed I’m forced to sell due to illness.

Included are some LMC new parts, NOS, and OE parts I’ve collected and will note in my descriptions. Please contact me should you have questions and/or want more images. Also, Blazer is currently driven, insured, licensed through August 2019 in CA.

Previous owner projects on Blazer for better or worse; I’ve corrected a few important safety issues:

1.Resprayed exterior; kept it green but the wrong factory green which is still intact on the interior (Medium Olive Poly). As I mentioned this is a solid truck and the underside is as clean as I’ve ever seen one of these but it was resprayed and I can see runs and where he filled the factory holes from trim and mirrors but not much else so it appears to have very little body work if any given it was a shade tree paint job.

2.Reupholstered the seats; left original vinyl but put new inserts in; rear completely redone.

3.Replaces carpeted; uge!

4.Installed aftermarket stereo; no worries dash is uncut and I have GM AM radio for Blazer.

5.Installed door and rear speakers; cut interior door lower panels and rear cardboard/ vinyl trim; unfortunate but repairable (FYI – radio spliced into under dash harness and has messed with factor TACH which I got working but now it’s not.) Planned to replace under dash harness.

6.Removed factory CST lower wood grained valance trim and filled holes; trim came with Blazer but was stolen during shipping; LMC has.

7.Removed factory right hand side mirror and filled holes; who knows why it was removed; I believe I have replacement.

8.Replaced factory Rochester carburetor (don’t have) with newer Holly (runs better with Holley)

9.Disconnect A/C; needs a little TLC but all there less rear compressor engine clamp and a few needed replacement pieces under dash, LMC has.

10.I removed the heavy and ugly dock bumper he had on Blazer; messed with wiring and installed new LMC factory look chrome bumper with new brackets; frame never cut so it was a clean swap.

11.I removed the1980’s Blazer steering wheel he had on it and installed new LMC factor look replacement; picture shows without horn button and wiring but I have.

12. Rear CST wood grain trim, light chrome trim, and gate chrome trim; I have LMC replacements for the Blazer.

Basic information and what I’ve done/ correct/ made safe/ since purchase:

1.Always garaged.

2.Origin exterior color Medium Olive Poly (has been resprayed) factory originally Green Spruce interior but some changes made by previous owner.

3.92,280.9 original miles.

4.350/ 350 automatic.

5.CST trim optioned.

6.Rear bench seat

7.Factory A/C.

8.Factory tilt steering wheel.

9.Roll bar (believe factory/ possibly dealer added.)

10.Factory instrument gauges and TACH

11.GM Kelsey Hayes 18” steel rims – set of 5 (powder coated white) with matching spare; I have correct factor full wheel covers for Blazer but like the look of the later dog dish covers; you get both. Factor spare tire tray not installed but I have it with all the hardware.

12.New B.F Goodrich A/T Terrain T/A K02 tires 31X10.50 R 15 LT, set of 5

13.Correct double walled fiberglass top.

14.3.73 gearing (recently upgraded stock non-posi rear to a posi both axles rebuilt).

15.Power steering.

16.New water pump.

17.New power steering hoses.

18.Drag link end.

19.Tie rod end.

20.Power Disc front brakes and drum rears (all recently rebuilt).

21.Both axes disassembled, new refurbished GM gear set, new 3 series posi carrier, new axle shaft kit, new master bearing shim and seal kits (previous owner did take Blazer through a mud and water; front axle was full of mud but she’s all better now).

22.New rear springs.

23.Installed 2’ block; like ride look better; me bad!

24.New upper and lower ball joints.

25.Refurbished spindle set.

26.Steering dampener.

27.Adjustable sleeve.

28.New tie rods.

29.Steering coupler repair kit.

30.New battery (8/2018).

31.New Monroe gas Magnum shocks.

32.New gas tank and hoses.

33.New Power brake pump.

34.Rebuilt power steering box (keeping number matching).

35.New cam/mild RV type runs better than factory (previous owner installed racing cam; go figure, no vacuum for power brakes; all better now).

36.New lifters to go with new cam.

37.New spark plugs.

38.New spark plug wires.

39.New distributor cap.

40.New correct green tint windshield.

41.New exhaust and muffler; sounds great!

42. Holly carburetor rebuilt.

Issues I’m aware of:

1.A/C needs some TLC to get operational; currently unchanged from factor R12 refrigerant type and is not charged, compresses turns.

2.Under dash A/C heater box cracked; I have NOS replacement but haven’t installed yet.

3.I planned on replacing all the wire harnesses; previous owner screwed with the rear, under dash, and engine with ad on like new horn button because he couldn’t figure out how to wire so he bypassed and the rear dock bumper mentioned earlier. Blazer runs and drives fine so not an urgent matter but if restore a for sure redo.

4.Fiberglass top rear lift lid; seen better days but still pretty solid, locks and latches work but needs alignment at least, has some repairs, chipped edges (see images).

5.Rear tail gate needs alignment; one side latches solid other hit and miss; Blazer from what I see has never been hit.

6. Rear deck at tail gate hinge shows rust under later installed carpet; likely will need new deck sections (LMC has).

7. Passenger door under kick panel shows surface rust at door skin bottom; sand and prep good to go; nothing aggressive.

I took nearly fifty pictures but EBay only allows 24; please let me know if you want to see them all.

8/5/18 - Lots of interest and requests for more images; send email address and I'll send you everything I have via "We Transfer" as its a very large file; nearly eighty images including the typical trouble areas. Also, this message sent to EBay'er this morning:
I pulled back the ugly after market carpet and pad from door sill, rocker, and rear deck at tail gate. I'll call it rust free at sill and rockers give original paint was present. The two images I have in the listing shows rust at the read deck so I pulled the carpet and pad from tail gate and about two feet back fro viable rust; this truck is solid. Rust is very centralized to chrome molding and is about 2"x$' area. If you want the additional 50+ pitchers send me your email.
