1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396 Description:

1970 El Camino SS396 - 350hp 396, M-20 Muncie 4 speed, 12 bolt rear end, ACTUAL 136 Code SS El Camino with factory 4 speed. Still has its original Hurst factory shifter, still as its Muncie transmission and still has its original 12 bolt rear end. Comes with its original serial numbered block that has repairable crack in water jacket at cylinder base. Car is complete except for it is missing the cast iron intake and oval port closed chamber heads. Engine was rebuilt and the block was bored & fitted with new .060 over pistons before the crack was discovered. So even if you choose to use another block, it comes with new pistons, reconditioned rods and crankshaft. Comes with its factory rally wheels & "may pop" BFG tires.
Has some rust in outer rear quarters and rear outer wheel houses and in the front fenders right behind front wheel opening. But what counts on an El Camino is inside the bed, and under the cab, and inside the spare tire well, which are all in GREAT shape... This is a very SOLID car and the doors still close like NEW!!

I have some nice original GM black SS interior door panels and a real nice original black bench seat that I'll GIVE FOR FREE to the buyer that hires me to hang NEW GM Restoration quarter panels, outer wheel houses and front fender patches. Contact me me to discuss a quote for this labor plus the cost of the parts.

This car was ORIGINALLY painted WHITE with a BLACK VINYL TOP and BLACK STEREO STRIPES. And with its saddle color interior, its no wonder the dealer had problems selling it. The original buyer wanted a pickup with a manual 4 speed transmission for hauling his fishing boat back and forth from the lake. However, the El Camino was the only pickup available in 1970 with the big block engine and manual trans. So the dealer painted this for its original buyer to this classic copper metallic in order to close the deal with the buyer. And it was nicely done, as I've found no over sprayanywhere on the car. Originally sold new at White Chevrolet in Casper Wyoming...
