Introduced five model years earlier, the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham outsold its stablemate, the Sixty Special by 1970. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 1970 Fleetwood Brougham. It is one of 16,913 Broughams made in 1970. The is a mostly correct Cadillac sedan with loads of equipment.

This particular example, dressed in Spartacus Blue Firemist (code 90) with a white, cross-grain padded vinyl roof (code 1) was made the second week of April 1970 at GM’s Detroit, Michigan factory. It left the line with the following optional equipment – Soft-Ray glass (code E), automatic climate control (code K), power door locks (code M) and power front seat adjuster (code V).

The exterior paint and trim are in satisfactory original condition and has minor blemishes on its hood, trunk, front fenders, doors and vinyl roof at the driver’s side C-pillar. The car’s windows, which are intact and clear, and the lights are in similar decent order. This is a nice quality driver in overall original condition, not restored.

The car’s bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the battery looks decent. The car’s chrome bumpers are in satisfactory order. This Fleetwood rolls on Hankook blackwall radials, size 235/75R15 at all four corners, surrounding steel wheels topped by factory disc wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are in satisfactory order.

Under the hood is a 472 CID V-8 with a four-barrel carburetor and 10.0:1 compression ratio. Backing up this motor is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 2.93 rear end. Driver convenience features include automatic climate control, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering column, power front seat, power locks and power windows.

Inside, the car has Medium Blue Divan Cloth interior (code 021S). The car’s front and rear bench seats are in satisfactory order, as is the matching blue carpet and headliner. The black, three-spoke steering wheel is present while the instrument panel and inner door liners are in decent condition. This particular Cadillac had the Dual Comfort Front Seat, which offered individual driver and passenger controls. Driver’s side was a two-way power operation while the passenger’s side was two-way manual operation. A six-way power seat adjuster for driver and passenger was available. There are even rear reading lamps and footrests for the rear seat passengers at the base of the front bench seat. The column-mounted shift lever is in satisfactory shape and there’s a factory AM/FM radio to round out the interior.

After a five-year absence the Brougham name once again reappeared as an option package on the 1965 Cadillac Sixty Special. The following year, the Brougham moved up to become a subseries of the Fleetwood Sixty Special. This continued through 1970. The 1970 Sixty Special received few changes, aside from the usual new grille and tail lamps. Sixty Special had long been recognized for its bold, bare side body, but this year the models received a ‘chrome with vinyl insert’ body-side molding – the model’s first prominent side molding since the ‘rocket-ship’ 1958. Sales were 16,913 units of the Sixty Special Brougham and just 1,738 Sixty-Specials. This would be the last year for the standard, metal-roofed Sixty Special.

Competition to this Fleetwood Brougham in 1970 included BMW’s 2800, Buick’s Electra 225 Hardtop, Chrysler’s 300 Hardtop, Lincoln’s Continental Sedan, Mercury’s Marquis Brougham and Oldsmobile’s 98 Luxury Sedan.

If you want a solid, classic Cadillac sedan that is mostly correct and fairly loaded with options, come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this Fleetwood Brougham.
