1972 Buick GS 455 GS Description:

I have a 1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1, engine and transmission are not numbers matching but is a period correct block, heads, intake, and crank from a 1970 455 engine, I am pretty sure that the exhaust manifolds are from a 1970 also but don't have the numbers. Engine was completely rebuild in 2000 from previous owner at a respected engine builder in Maine. I have attached the worksheet that details what work was done to the engine. Engine was rebuilt to 1970 Stage 1 specifications. I have had the car approximately 5-1/2 years and have done a lot of improvements, as I never really expected to sell it.
New high torque starter
New Exhaust
New brakes
New tires
New front end bushings and tie rod ends Steering box and all linkages
Pertronix electronic ignition
Aluminum radiator with electric fans that work great,
New posi traction unit with 2.75 gears, wanted a highway cruiser but it will still boil the tires.
Engine runs great and has tons of torque, and has great oil pressure.
Car Paint is pretty hard to rate as everyone has different opinions, but will do my best I would rate with 1 being no paint at all and a 10 being show quality, I would rate the paint a solid 8 it has a few chips here and there from driving but is in great shape. The vinyl top is in great shape also no tears and not faded.
The engine was rebuilt in 2000 the paint on the engine was faded from heat cycles and the manifolds were a little rusty so I ended up pulling the engine with the thoughts of cleaning it all up and giving it a coat of paint. I pulled off the oil pan, intake valve covers and looked at everything and by the looks of everything it hadn't been driven much at all I could still see cross hatching on the cylinder bores. So I cleaned and painted everything making improvements as I went, including new TA performance high flow water pump, new fuel pump, new oil pump, new gaskets, etc. Painted everything and put it back together, I also sealed up the Turbo 400 Transmission gave it a coat of silver paint and put everything back in. Before engine went back in I cleaned up firewall and put heat reflective material on to block some of the heat from the engine. This is one thing led to another when the engine was out I noticed all bushing in arms were shot so I just replaced everything with new since it was much easier while the engine was out. I also had the exhaust manifolds jet coated to keep from rusting in the future. I put everything back together and car has run great every since. This is a pretty rare car that is in great shape with a lot of unique options. I have attached the Sloan report that shows everything that this car was build with, I have also attached a production numbers report that shows how many cars were made with certain options. The though the exhaust bumper was a pretty rate option, car has AC which does work and blows about 45 degrees out of the vent, car also has a oil priming system that primes the engine with oil pressure before engine is cranked for peace of mind. This is 1 of the 627 cars made in 1972 with a Turbo 400 transmission, and 1 of 20 that was the YY2 code, which is a Sunburst Yellow Car with a vinyl black top.
The only thing I know doesn't work is the fuel gauge it worked at one time but stopped and I haven't gotten around to fixing it. The oil pressure gauge and temp gauge work but I just added some Autometer gauges for both oil pressure and temperature to keep a more accurate eye on them.
