1985 BMW 3-Series Black leather Description:
INTERIOR:When originally purchased the interior carpet was tan but was swapped out for Anthracite. The seats were redone in genuine black leather only last summer. Accenting the interior are some black and white checkered Coco Mats and a Momo Prototipo steering wheel to give it that "Outlaw" kind of look. The rear seats were removed ( Have the origional seat and in good condition, just tan leather) and were replaced with two pieces of plywood with some black carpeting on top. As you might have already noticed the tachometer goes up to 7,000 RPM which means it is out of a 325i. I originally planned to swap the motor on the car but that never happened. The tach still reads accurately but it is still limited to the 5,500 RPM like all eta's. The speedometer does not read all too accurately after 40 mph and gets worse as you climb in speed, the glove box is very finicky and sometimes needs to be slammed shut in order to close, and there is only one small crack in the dashboard!
EVERYTHING MECHANICAL
The timing belt and water pump were replaced in Summer 2014. This car was originally an automatic but I have since had the transmission swapped to a 5 speed manual in the Spring of 2016. The swap was performed by Denis at OMG Motorworks in West Babylon where it also received a single mass flywheel instead of the stock dual mass. When performing the swap, I also upgraded the differential to a 3.73 LSD and had a 1.9 Z3 short shifter installed with new bushings. This has made the car tons more fun and way more engaging to drive. The suspension has been refreshed at some point in its life but not by me. It has aftermarket shocks and lowering springs, but I do not know the brand/model of them. Drive it in person and I guarantee you won't be itching to change them out anytime soon. I had the steering rack swapped in Spring 2017 for a Z3 steering rack along with E36 tie rod ends. The fuel pump was replaced in Summer 2017 along with both front control arms and E30 M3 Offset control arm bushings. Onto the bad; The car leaks a good amount of oil. In the pictures you can see the bottom of the motor is soaked in it. This is entirely my fault as I had planned on swapping the motor out, so I have always just lived with it. In my six years of ownership it has never once cause me an issue. When I was daily driving it I added a quart of oil to it once every 3-4 weeks depending on how much I was driving and as a result I always carried an extra quart with me just in case. It will leak on your driveway! When I purchased the car in 2012 the previous owner told me the odometer had failed in 2007. I knew this was a common problem in E30's and I figured since it was already five years gone I never bothered to fix the gears, so the true mileage is unknown. If I were to guess it is easily in the 200,000 - 220,000-mile range. The cat and O2 sensor were removed and it is straight piped up to a a Magnaflow #14815 muffler. She sits on D-Force Aluminum Alloy wheels wrapped in 205/50/ZR15 Continental Extreme Contact Summer Sport tires. I purchased both in Spring 2016 and they have hardly any wear. I also JUST put in a new battery in August 2018.
BODY
The body on this car is not too bad but it is not perfect. When I removed the carpeting to swap I repaired two small rust holes under the driver’s seat. The only rust on the body is a bubble by the gas cap and about an inch around the trunk seals. It was resprayed at some point in its life (before me) in its original Zinnoberrot. I receive tons of compliments on the paint and it looks great when cleaned but it is not without its flaws. The paint is starting to chip by the rocker panels and there are a few dents and scratches here and there. I know there is a good size scratch on the right-side door. The only body "modifications" I've made to the car are the iS lip spoiler in the rear and the fading yellow high beams.
