Introduced as the Healey "Hundred" that garnered a production deal from BMC's Leonard Lord at the 1952 London Motor Show, the Austin-Healey 100-4 soon shattered speed records and won circuit races with the eras top drivers. Constant improvement yielded the final Mark III BJ8 model, produced from 1964 to March 1968, which legions of British sports-car fans consider the best "Big Healey" of all.
Without doubt one of the finest examples in existence and currently available, this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 Sports Convertible is an original left-hand drive Export model that was purchased by Healey owner and enthusiast Admiral James "Mac" Gleim from a friend whom he referred to as a "CIA agent" in 1978. The Admiral related that this Healey was too nice to drive during his ownership and when he was on deployment in 1982, he placed this vehicle into storage at a facility near his base, confirmed by receipts on file, where it remained until 1993 when the Admiral returned to California for his retirement. He retained the impeccably original Healey with strictly limited use until he consigned it in December 2019 to a specialist British sports-car dealer, where the next owner acquired it following a lengthy search for the best Austin-Healey possible. Following that purchase, the underside of the vehicle was cleaned and detailed using dry ice, the paint finish was polished, and mechanical maintenance was performed to the brakes, clutch, suspension, gaskets, and seals by a British-car specialist, confirmed by an itemized invoice accompanying the sale of the Healey.
Beautifully presented with fewer than 24,000 original miles, this this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 is as close as one can get to a brand new example with its totally original paint finish, interior, and luggage compartment, which contains the factory spare wheel/tire, roadside jack, and tools, including the knock-off wheel hammer, plus scripted Austin-Healey floor mats. Even the original wheels and tires accompany the sale of the vehicle! Originality continues in the engine and surrounding engine compartment remain in startlingly original condition, with the exception of the water pump and minor service items. The original convertible top is also included, with factory markings to the normally unseen areas still clearly visible. Even the chrome and bright trim is totally original; however, upon inspection, the fog lamps may have been added at some point in the car's pampered existence. In addition to service records and a maintenance log from new, this incomparable 1967Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III includes the selling dealer-issued warranty book. Offered in exemplary, never-restored condition, this legendary British sports car is ready to enjoy and appreciate, standing worthy of the finest collections.
