Here we have a rare 1987 Audi 5000 S - Special Edition

2.2 Inline 5 Cyl- 3 speed automatic

After sitting for too many years, this gem has been brought back to running condition.

Owned by an elderly woman who purchased it new from Dave Strong Audi of Salt Lake in 1987.

The car was parked a few years ago due to her retirement.

This is a running restoration project.

Recently installed a battery, topped off the PS fluid,resealed / gone through the fuel tank / lines.

Can be daily driven carefull, it’s mechanically capable as is.

This is a running and driving restoration project that deserves to be preserved.

I have yet to find one for sale recently, majority of these 5000s succumbed to rust, and to find one in this condition nowadays is extremely rare.

Cons :

Odometer reads 65,101, but it doesn’t move.

Owner confirmed it has sub 70k miles with oil service receipt

Paint fade and one cracked headlight

Radio not working - fuse

Cold starts take longer than when warmed up

Small power steering leak

Light on dash indicating brake pad wear,

Air intake boot cracked, I taped it for a temporary seal - easy replacement

Small inconsistent fuel drip from an old fitting under the hood - easy replacement

Transmission shifts rough until it reaches operation temperature.

Takes about 15 minutes of driving nicely / idling to fully warm up.

Once that’s done, it drives wonderfully.

Certified Audi Technician says it needs a transmission fluid flush

Driver door lock is interesting

Front passenger and rear driver window struggle to go up and down, but they do.

Rear Audi emblem needs to be applied with new adhesive

Tires are old but have tread and hold air
