Many of the expensive race parts was kept in the Montreal engine from the forged steel crank shaft to the vibration damped con rods in tungsten alloy and pistons in special light weight aluminum. The Spica mechanical injection has some elaborate induction ram stacks that was concealed in the air filter box and 2 Bosch fuel pumps delivered the food to the dry sump oiled engine. All race bred technology that easily matched that from the high class competition from Ferrari and Maserati. For the transmission Alfa opted for the German ZF 5-speed with dog leg 1st, an immensely strong gearbox that over the years has proved to be almost indestructible.
