1980 Alfa Romeo Spider Sprint Veloce Description:

Car is in great shape having undergone a mild restoration/ reconditioning. New original color exterior only paint job in 2016. Had some non structural rust repaired in rockers. Car had major brake service with many hydraulic components replaced. Clutch hydraulics also mostly new. Ignition system is for the most part new per original specification. This car was converted many years ago to Dual Side Draft Dellorto DHLA 40 carburetors. They have been serviced and tuned to perfection (see videos). The car starts and drives without any issues. There is no "popping, spitting or stumbling" of any sort from these carbs. They were tuned by my good friend "Superlegend" who is the best carburetor tuner I have met (want to give him credit !). I do not have the original (troublesome) fuel injection. This carb set up is easy and less expensive to maintain. The engine idles nice and smooth and the plugs stay nice and clean (= indication of perfect carb settings and condition of engine). The interior is uncanny for a 37 year old car, smooth soft leather seats without any tear or rips, and leather door panels. Original carpeting. Electric windows operate, all lights work, all gauges work, the radio is "weak" but it is a pull out type and can easily be upgraded if desired. The fuel sending unit needs to be replaced. The engine does not leak, burn oil, overheat or anything "bad". It runs better on premium gas. The carbs give the engine more performance than the injection system. The convertible top is black canvas aka Haartz Stayfast which is the best available. It is brand new and has only been in a dry garage.
I bought this car about 3 years ago from the daughter of the original owner. The car was parked in-op in their garage. It needed to be put back on the road. I did all the work myself except for the bodywork and pain. I am an avid classic car collector/ restorer and wanted this car for my family. The idea was to make it very presentable, reliable and true to its originality. It is not over restored, rather it is done to a point where the car can be enjoyed without being concerned about using it. There is a small area of rust (approx 1.5" x 2.5") on the driver's side floor. The rust is limited to the floor panel and does not extend into the inner rocker. It is an "easy" and fun (for those that like light restoration work) repair that will not require $ exterior paint work. For the "Edd China" (Wheeler Dealer TV Show) in you this is as simple as rust repair gets. I am not concerned about it because this car was not intended to be driven in wet conditions and again it is not in a structural part of the body. Kept dry you should have no issues. I have intentionally left it untreated as not to "cover anything up" to a potential buyer. It can be repaired if the buyer wishes at an additional expense TBD.
I have owned and driven many European (British) classic convertibles from this era. Given the choice, I would drive an Alfa Romeo over any British Roadster for reliability, performance, ride quality, creature comforts and the simple fact that you can motor along at 75-80 mph on the high way and keep up with traffic. Compared to other Spiders on the market you are looking at a properly sorted and 99.9% turn key car. All the heavy lifting has been done already. When you add up the cost of the car, parts, repairs, time to sort out the car, etc.....you quickly realize the value in this car.
